Pocket Magnet & Fun Gluing!!!

First things first, I’m back in Canada! Woohoo! Only an hour or so at the border to get through the US customs… something called “Export Control” sounds more like a Canadian Government thing, but no matter, we passed, and made it home. :)

My favourite jeans are officially unwearable, not only in public, but it was a little dangerous at home as well. (you try not tripping on the bottom seam) Anyways, in an effort to recycle them, I’ve been looking into ideas. I was thinking of making a rag quilt, I just haven’t gotten there yet. For the back pocket though… what better than a fridge magnet? I could store little kitchen things in there, not to mention the pen for the fridge. (I seem to loose it soooo often.) All I did was cut out the pocket, glue around the edges to stop fraying, and then glue two round magnets to the top back, and voila! I’m done! I was thinking of adding some trim, or other embellishments, but decided I like it plain better.

My second project occured on the weekend. What better to do while watching curling than lots of gluing? I decided that one of the flowers that mum bought me was looking a little naked. All the other plants have a pot, or at least a decorative one. So I made it one. It looks a little Christmasy with the red foil that my Mum and Grandmother think makes it look pretty, but it turned out well otherwise. I cut the yarn into strips (while gluing… not the best idea, but the scissors came clean) then I dipped each in glue, whiped the excess off, and then arranged on a glass jar. In hindsight, putting saran wrap around the jar might have made it easier to take the project off. (I was thinking that craft glue doesn’t stick to glass, and it doesn’t, it peels off, but I didn’t take into account that it likes to CLING to the jar. Took a lot of poking, pulling, peeling, slicing with a knife inbetween the jar and the yarn, not to mention a lot of cursing to get it off. Not the point, I got it off.) After taking it off the jar, I put the pot in it for size, cut off the excess, and then took it off the pot again. I covered the bottom, inside and out, with good ol’ waterproof glue. Let it dry, and I was done! I love glue.
