Oh Rogers remote… how I loathe you.

As many of you know, I was having a blonde moment, and lost my original rogers remote. I don’t know where, I don’t know how, I just know it’s gone. So I go in, they give me a new one. I get home, I spend two hours programming the damn thing because it doesn’t like to be programmed, and every time I programed a second device, the other(s) would stop working. how lovely. Anyways, I get the thing to work, finally. It’s not perfect, and it likes to ignore commands and not turn on/off things all the time, but the majority of the time, all was happy. This lasted for a month. I get home last Sunday. I decide to install my Wii. I install my Wii, all works fine. Monday comes, and I’m thinking, hey, it’s early enough in the morning that Student Bodies should be on. If it was, I will never know. Since Monday, the remote has been going downhill. Sometimes it would work, sometimes it wouldn’t. Then it started not being able to control my tv. I try to reprogram it. It will not accept the old code, nor any of the other codes listed for my model. I try their 9-9-1 code to search. An hour later, still no worky. I think, okay, well, I’ll just use the tv remote to control the tv. i do when i want to play video games or watch dvd’s, this shouldn’t be an issue. Next came its inability to work the dvd player. I try to program it again, it doesn’t work. I think, man this is weird, so i do their what’s-my-program-number code, and it’s for a different model. same as the tv. i think, okay, well, i use the other remote mostly for the dvd player anyways. Doesn’t matter, Criminal Minds will be on in 15. So, let’s turn on that cable box… I said, let’s turn on that cable box… ugh! Let’s just say, it didn’t work. It still doesn’t work. It won’t accept the previous codes for their box, and it’s preprogrammed to automatically work the box anyways! I didn’t have these problems with the first remote! Anyways, I’m considering calling customer service/walking into the store to get it switched. I did, however, do a google search for this remote, and it seems to be causing soooooo many people issues, it’s funnier than my ability to lose a remote. I have a card to mail though, so I’m thinking I’m gonna stop by circuit city in the Eaton’s Cent… wait, sorry, Quebec St Mall to just buy a non-rogers remote.

  • Sounds like you have a dead battery. Try a new battery and see what happens ;)

  • i might have my blonde moments, but i assure you that i’ve tried new batteries. (and they were brand new a month ago) oh, and the light still lights up meaning it should still be okay battery wise.

mum’s taking me to rogers after work tomorrow to straighten this all out. (and hopefully ends up with my having a new remote!)

  • zoe:

well, maybe it just had loose wires, so it was acting like the battery was dead. did you drop it? throw it across the room? run it over with a car? any of these things may result in the problems you’ve been having ;) Good luck getting a new one!

  • it’s been shotty since I got it, so i’m thinking that it had to be wrong on their end before I got it. I didn’t throw it until after it stopped working for the record. Went in tonight to complain. They gave me a new remote, and if I have problems with this one, they’re blaming it on the cable box! What does its inability to be programmed for everything, and to actually work have to do with the cable box making it act funny?!

  • does it work better?

Kris, you should put an index.html file in your /Kristel directory, redirecting to /Krister/Wordpress. I always end up at that GoDaddy ‘no such page’ error.

    code: http://www.instant-web-site-tools.com/html-redirect.html

  • it works much better :)

I plan on putting something in the /Kristel directory! Work just keeps getting in the way. The plan is for mid may… I have the menu half done… doesn’t that count for something?
