Akismet, why can’t you protect my cell phone?!

Stupid question, I know. But I’ve been getting LOTS of spam on my cell phone the last couple days… and Akismet brought my spam posts down from 10 a day to roughly 1 or 2 every couple weeks… so it’s too bad they don’t have anything for my cell phone. There is officially enough to be counted towards harassment. It’s pissing me off. Area code 222 (can’t find anything definitive as to which country it belongs to… couple candidates though) but get this, comes in as a LOCAL 9 digit phone number (Who in North America even has anything other than a 10 digit number, let alone local) And not only that, but I’m getting spam from now 4 different numbers, associated with different hotmail accounts (but the texts from the same number always come from the same hotmail) and the numbers are just 1 digit off (sequentially in the last digit) Anyways, so they’re texting me, and they’re all along the lines of “Hey, let’s chat!” “Hey boy” and my personal favourite” “wanna head to the bar 2nite” (YES! but not with you sicko. Need a drink…) So we call bell, to say “WTF is wrong with you motha f…” kristel calm yourself… okay, so we call them, we get some bimbo on the other end who’s obviously more blonde than I am, so she tells us to reply with “STOP” which the bell servers will get, and will say, “Okay, we’ll block this numba 4 U!” It clearly didn’t work, and now I’m getting a bunch more texts from one number specifically along the lines of “?” or “What did you mean by that?” and “hello? what’s wrong with u dude?” oh bell. Going to call bell again after lunch and bitch some more. Aparently they could try something different, but it would be trickier on their end to block the whole domain etc., not to mention she’d have to pass us on up the line, and she really wants the commission made off of us… grrr. Anyways, will let you know how this turns out. worse case scenario is that i get a new number (& if i’m lucky new phone! you know, iPhone’s coming to Canada July 11th… haha)

  • Ok, have you tried not having msn be able to send messages to you if you are off line? (assuming that you are using msn still)

  • Oh, and if you are getting a new phone, I suggest Koodo… you can change your number whenever you want and its also month to month… no contract.

  • I haven’t registered my phone to work with msn. I haven’t even put my cell number in my info with my msn account. They’re not texting my cell as if I was set on mobile, they’re texting my cell through msn for unknown reasons. It makes me wonder if one of my friends is just totally stupid and either put my cell number in their contact list, or more likely, they’ve left their phone in the bar *again* and suddenly someone has all their phone numbers. (It’s actually quite scary the number of friends I have who have lost their cell phone in the past year…)

as for the new phone, we’ll see. When the boss pays for your phone, which makes it a “company phone” somehow he gets to decide when I get a new one, and just which model I should pick.

  • oh hooray! Make that 5 different numbers now. The second number still replying with “Why won’t you talk to me?” and “..Dude” good grief. I’d call bell, but dad has the account number and all the info from today, so I can’t make the call. Oh well, means I get to bug him until he does it. He says it can’t be *that* annoying, but you try texting a friend, all of a sudden have new message come through, and your phone be stupid and dump the old message and then you have to write a new one! geez… i’ll send an email.

  • Trade phones with him, problem solved! ;)
