Fable II: The Review

Overall, Sean was right (or at least his source was) that it was disapointing. If there was a bug, I found it. (Even ones some people are swearing those few of us are nuts to have.) Granted, I did find a way around most of the bugs — usually, what happens is, us Fable veterans used to do something in the first game one way, we try to do it in the second game and it doesn’t go so happy. Like we’re so used to telling people to follow us, that we tell our kid to follow, only to fight our way to the end of the cave… and our kid to stay behind. (If you have this bug, seriously, just don’t tell them to follow. Your kid will follow regardless. Of course, you could just kill off your sobbing spouse and be done with it.) But moving on…. The plot, definately a little better than the first (or at least a little less disjointed) but I think it’s shorter. Or at least my time doing the main story line was several hours shorter than the first. (Though I do like that I just get knocked out instead of dying and having to start over… especially when just blitzing through.) In the first fable, you could earn money the fastest probably by trading. (at least once you’ve massed enough gold to buy high quality items) Fable II, I found that doesn’t work as well… in fact, you’re better off buying a house and earning rent every 5 minutes (even when it’s off) then trading. I do miss earning money for quests though… the jobs thing doesn’t quite make up for it.

But even with all my above complaining… you know what the worse thing is? My Xbox doesn’t seem to be able to keep up with the game, and tends to crash midplay, without warning. In fact, the first one on the 360 does this as well. The most annoying thing ever, having to start over from your last save… and saving every 10 minutes doesn’t exactly help either considering that usually it crashes just bringing up the start menu.

So my final comment? Well, overall, I actually liked it. It was disapointing, yes, but I have faith that they will produce another patch to get rid of most of my problems. The crashing thing probably won’t be fixed with a patch… considering i’m pretty sure it’s a my xbox thing (that i can’t convince microsoft is actually a problem. they tell me i’ve been playing too long, and it’s overheating. bullshit. it can happen within the first 2 minutes, or after 2 solid hours. no difference)

Wow, i’m really complaining tonight… probably because i’m bored.

Oh, thinking of having a christmas card stamping party! (ie a make your christmas cards at my house party) if you want to come, let me know, and i’ll let you know the details. i have the stamps & pads, embossing, heat gun, fun scissorts, etc. bring your own cardstock/cards/envelopes.

  • forgot to mention that their humor, was as good as last time! and the little easter eggs within were fun. Like Rosie the teddybear’s grave. :)

  • Maybe, if you were not keeping your x-box warm on top of the heater, wrapped in a blanket, you wouldn’t have these problems? :P

  • lol maybe. i was going to keep it out on a sliding tray, and pull it out everytime i play just so it’ll have air all the way around it, but if i did that, it might just catch a cold! :P
