Fable II: The Misfortune

Put Fable II in my drive for the first time in a few weeks two days ago. (Getting through 3 seasons of Angel takes a while when you can’t watch it all day!) So it tells me there’s a new update that night, I do so. Then the misfortune happens. The game randomly crashed before, but nothing like after the update. The longest it would let me play is 15 minutes, though it averaged about 5. Eventually I got fed up & went to bed. Then we get to yesturday… I decide, you know what, I don’t want to deal with Fable II today, maybe I will play something else… same issues. 5 minutes, crash! Grrr… so I call XBox, lady tells me it’s overheating. I tell her, and I quote, “Bullshit. You cannot overheat an xbox in under 5 minutes. Not to mention this started *after* the Fable II update.” She says, “Oh.” and forwards me off to some guy. Guy has me going through everything from clearing my cache, to restoring factory defaults — to no avail. Eventually, he tells me just buy a new disk of Fable II and maybe that’ll work. I say, “Whatever” and hang up…. and search the intarweb. Turns out it’s a very common problem. I eventually find someone who’s had these problems, but found a solution. You ready for this:

Install Fable II on your harddrive.

Ridiculously simple, but it works! (If you’re having these issues, and don’t know how to install, on the main dashboard, where you’d usually click “A” to load the game, click “Y” instead to look at the game properties. Install to harddrive, and then it’ll boot from there.) I don’t know why it worked, but quite frankly, I don’t care. Considering calling Xbox back to tell them about this solution. Glad I registered for help though… mostly.
