Who Knew
I have spent more money on clothes, shoes, and jewelry in the past two days than I usually do in a year… okay, by “clothes” I am referring to dress clothes and not every day stuff, but still…
The last funeral I’ve been to was my Great Uncle Ken… and I was 13, didn’t have to be a part of the visitation, and quite frankly, I don’t really remember it. But I’m pretty sure we didn’t buy any new clothes. At least if we did, there’s no where near the amount I’ve come home with.
Aparently for two days of visitation & a funeral, you need:
- two pairs of pants (in case one gets dirty)
- two pairs of shoes (in case you need to switch off shoes… okay…?)
- three nice camis
- one new, spring, nice jacket
- two nice shirts for visitation
- a nice sweater for visitation
- one really nice, and therefore expensive, jacket & shirt combo for the funeral
- waterproof mascara
- new earrings (I got one killer deal on these by the way… $63, regular $185.)
- not to mention flowers for the deceased, an increased “eating out” budget, additional makeup that I don’t need, but will make me “feel better about myself”, and bribes for Mom to do my ironing
Is it just me, or is this entirely unnessessary? I get the waterproof mascara, and that I should probably wear earrings since my ears are pierced, and flowers seems to be a normal thing. And I also get that showing up in jeans & a tshirt for shaking people’s hands that I don’t know probably wouldn’t be a good idea, but still… I think I’ve spent $400 overall! That’s my spending money for april, and more besides. Oh well, at least she didn’t make me go through the nightmare that is bra shopping.
On a sidenote, sorry Sean, your prize hasn’t been mailed yet. If you’re lucky, it’ll go out before Tuesday. If not, probably Wednesday. Likewise, sorry Vicky, your letter hasn’t gone out either! Oh, and I picked up the new Prince of Persia for the 360. It was no where near as fun as the old ones. It felt much more Zelda-like actually… and he wasn’t as smooth (agile?) as the original prince… and definately more annoying. The final boss fight was a joke, and you honestly can’t die (or at least I never sucked so bad mid-fight that I did.) You can jump off the edge into the middle of no where and you’ll be just fine. At least the princess was wearing a few more clothes. I also finally saw Twilight. It was lame. Edward spent the whole movie in one of two modes: Emo spider monkey, or OMG-I-almost-had-a-facial-expresssion. And they left out huge chunks of the book. I would’ve suffered longer gladly if there was more content.
I think I’ve complained enough for one evening. Think I’ll lay out my clothes for tomorrow, gather the stuff up for visitation (scrapbooking pages, tablecloths she embroidered, etc.) watch a mindless movie, and then go to bed.
