Gavin’s Going To Win By Default!

Thanks to Sean, you can now read yesterday’s post today.

Only one entry for the photo contest?! I didn’t think it was that bad of an idea guys. You only have a few more hours to submit something, anything!

So maybe I shouldn’t hold contests, or do you all have a better idea?

In other news, it’s Saturday. Yes, that’s really just how exciting my week has been. There’s still cheesecake in my fridge, and a whole bunch more leftovers in my freezer. Not to mention a whole lot of bottles still sitting on my counter… really should put those somewhere. Thinking of working on my miniquilt today. I have my fabric, divided into the three piles; I even have four whole squares of fabric (of the um… 80) cut. But then I think, wouldn’t a nap at least feel more rewarding in the short term? It’s not like you have fabric for the backing/binding, or the batting for the middle. And if you nap you might feel like vacuuming later today and if you do that watching a movie tonight might feel like a reward rather than just a break from sleep, food, & work…

Moving on…

So I’ve been browsing the web while writing this. You might call it multitasking, I call it short attention span. Anyways, look at what I found. (click here!) Thinking I could do the same with all the bottles on the counter? Just have to strip them of their labels, frost the glass, and then get some lighting hardware and attach to something… hmm, but they’d get hot, and would there be enough air for the lights inside? The super-expensive-not-worth-it chandelier looks like those lights are empty at the bottom. Thinking about it more, sounds like way too much effort. I wouldn’t mind making one lamp, but a whole bunch, attached to something not conductive, or properly insulated, and so on, just sounds like too much effort. Like the 76 more squares of fabric I need to cut down, and I’m thinking more and more that it won’t be finished today.

Speaking of things from the weekend that I have to get rid of/put away… there’s some pineapple in my fridge that never quite made it to the cake… so I’m hoping it’s still good enough for candied pineapple. It’s been a week, but it’s fresh, so I dunno. if it’s not, well, no candied pineapple for me. Recipe’s here.

I was thinking if I ever decided to make a quilt, I would be seriously tempted to buy the squares pre cut on e-bay.

I’m sorry I didn’t enter your contest! I was going to do it yesterday, but then we ended up visiting some friends that night ! :S

I’m betting they used specific lights in that uber-expensive chandelier. Like maybe halogen lamps are ok to get really hot with no circulation? The only thing is that the outside bottle would also get incredibly hot. Actually — I wonder if it might melt the cord?

Oh! Idea — what if they were bunches of LEDs instead. If you group those together they can get get quite bright, they don’t get hot and they don’t need air circulation.

Also — they are very energy efficient so you would not pay as much electricity to turn it on! Yep. I think LEDs are the way to go.

  • I resubmitted your comment disguised as you. muahahaha!

but the cutting’s half the fun. at least i seem to swear a lot less for that part.

i’m trying to think of a way to make the contest better, so maybe someone other than gavin will enter. i was wondering if maybe we make it a broader submission base? as in, not just photography, but maybe we just set a theme (like zombies) and then let people submit what they want based on zombies? so photographs would work, but so would recipe’s for zombie brains, stuffed zombies, plans for the perfect zombie catapult, a review of Shaun of the Dead, and short stories and long stories with zombies (speaking of which, just found a book called “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” yes, it’s exactly what you think it is. it’s Jane Austen’s original book, with additions of zombies.)

probably. i took one look at the price tag and decided it was ridiculous, so didn’t look into anything else. like the price tag for the drawing lessons i was looking into (we all know just how well i can draw.) it was $200 for 6 lessons. sounds way too much for me, especially since i’m not sure that it would actually help me draw more than i can already

so are you trying to talk me into doing it then?

oh, and i found one of the two missing coolers in my fridge. when i clean more i’m sure i’ll find the other one for when i next see you guys

So sorry that I didn’t submit anything for the contest! The last week has been busy with preparing my bachelor thesis and spending some time with the Canadian part of the family who just visited. But for the next one (if there’s on. oh, by the way, I think it would be a good idea to keep it more open as you suggested!), I hope I can take part!
