Hmmm
I got a new plant today. I’m 99% sure it’s a bromeliad… I think. But it’s got this white sort of powdery, yet kinda just dirty stuff all over it! Which is what’s throwing me off. Should I be wiping it off, or letting it be, or going to my nearest garden centre for… mold helping spray stuff…?

Ha. Gallery. how fun. even if it is only two shots. not sure how it’ll look, but wordpress wouldn’t make it look bad.
So any ideas on the white stuff? Oh, and is it like most… tropicals? As in, keep it moist, and in sun, and it’ll like you? I’m going with yes… and after some mid-post research… the intarweb agrees with me. Too bad I’m still not sure about the white stuff. At least the research did tell me that it’s okay to let the baby grow off it for a while (aparently until it’s 1/2 the mama plant size) so it doesn’t have to be moved yet.

oooh, pretty.
Isn’t this kinda plant closely related to a pineapple? I feel like that might be true. I also feel like maybe you’re supposed to fill something with water? I remember when I was looking up growing pineapples, it said something about … keeping some part of the plant filled with water?
did you see anythink like that in your intarwebs research?
I didn’t see anything like that online. Sounds interesting though. I did find out that it only blooms once in a lifetime, so the blooming I’m seeing now is the only one I’m ever going to see from it… which might be a good thing considering it might die prematurely…
oh! and it might be releated to the pineapple. it’s certainly pointy like one! going to have to move it soon… like before my leg permanently looks like a pincushion…
