Fruit Flies & Yarn Burns
I know where the yarn burns come from, but not the fruit flies… so let’s start with the yarn burns.
I’m knitting a scarf. I started on Wednesday… it’s about half done or so. On Wednesday, I also bought some yarn, before I recieved the ball Mom brought me back from Alberta, before I started the scarf from said ball. On Thursday, or was it Friday?, I came across another scarf pattern, perfect for the ball of yarn I bought on Wednesday. And now I can’t *wait* to start, but I’m trying this finish-what-you-start approach to my knitting. It’s leaving me with yarn burns! But then, my stash will go dramatically down if I play that game, so it sounds like it’d be a good idea, right?
………sorry about that, took a break to knit for 20 minutes, though I guess you wouldn’t have noticed. Anyways, what was I talking about, oh yes, Fruit Flies.
There are fruit flies in my kitchen. Every day, I anhiliate about 20 of them, so I only see 2, maybe 3 of them left, who continue to elude me. Next day, they’re back. I don’t know where they’re coming from, and I’ve cleaned out every inch of this apartment. There’s no reason for them still to be here. Am I missing the trick? As in, should I be leaving my windows wide open and hope they’ll make a run for it? Or what?! So annoyed. Mostly because they’re gross, and don’t like the idea of them landing on me.
Well, back to knitting… if I’m lucky, I’ll be finished by the time ROTK finishes. But I started with TT, which is just finishing, so I guess I have FOTR too if I need it… Haven’t watched the extended versions enough. The music doesn’t line up right with the scenes I expect it will.
We had tons of fruit flies in our kitchen as well, and still have some. The trick is: take a bowl, fill it with vinegar, put 1-2 table spoons sugar in, and a bit of dishwashing liquid. They love vinegar and sugar and the dishwashing liquid makes them drown. It works perfectly!
I use a similar trick: just the dish soap & water. It worked for a few days… and then they got smart it seems… and avoid the bowls at all costs, even after making fresh ones.
The problem is — I still don’t know where they’re coming from, so I might be getting rid of most of them, but they’re still attracted to something somewhere…
my mom said sometimes they get in the drain and breed in there … try putting the plugs in maybe? trap them in there if that’s what it is?
i had that thought too — and have had the plug in for 2 days now and it doesn’t seem to be helping. eventually they’ll all die off, right?
