October Happenings

Figured I should post… it’s been a while, and with good reason. Been so busy, just no time. But I have an hour and a half to get ready for Thanksgiving dinner, so I think I’m good timewise.

So where did I leave off… 3 weeks ago? Lots of Scouting happenings. Mostly meetings, and then kids meetings, which I’ll save you the reading of. (Our meetings are fun, but let’s face it, unless I give you and individual run down of each meeting, it’ll get a little monotonous.) We now have 3 cubs. Hooray! At this rate, we could have 6 by Christmas. We went camping first weekend of October. It rained the whole thing — I was glad we were sleeping in the cabin instead of in tents. It was cold too. But it went well. Even if 1 of the 2 cubs going left a day early (previous engagements) and then the other was left all alone. I was surprised he slept through the night though. He had the light in his room on all night, but still. 8 years old, the first time sleeping away from home without Mom or Dad, in a room with one very scary pair of left behind tighty whities.

After camp… what came next? We had our Popcorn kickoff for scouting. If anyone wants to buy some Scout Popcorn and wishes to support 1st Guelph St James Scout Group, we’d appreciate it! (The money has to be in by the 26th, or my birthday if I want to go in for the football ticket. I can cover you until I see you if you’re interested. Popcorn’s delivered to me end of November sometime) Played some games, glad I’m not with the smaller age group (aka Beavers) Just don’t have the patience for that. Their oldest beaver is seriously adhd, and we could be getting him next year (if they don’t decide to send him up to us early.) He seriously should have someone taking care of him 1-on-1 during group meetings, and while his Mom is a leader, she doesn’t seem to have him under any control… I’m not going to be looking forward to him joining the pack if they can’t even get him to sit with the group, let alone in the same room. But maybe he’ll smarten up, or at the very least, we don’t put up with that bs in cubs, so while it’ll be tough in the beginning, surely he’ll come around… or at least in the same room.

Pepper’s growing ever bigger. Not a big dog by any stretch, but we’ve reached the 9 lb mark. The brown in her is coming out more, and she’s a little better behaved. When she’s excited, all training goes out the window, but we’re good when calm. As embarrassing as it is, we’re still having issues with potty training. I think it’s the 5 minutes it takes to get her out to grass. I’m told that I shouldn’t say “No” or do anything negative because it just tells her I’m mad that she did her business, not that I’m mad about where she did her business. But at this point, I think it’s necessary. She does know to go outside, she doesn’t know to ONLY go outside. Maybe the vet will have some pointers. I don’t want to switch back to the puppy pads though, too much garbage and I’d be buying them forever.

Yesturday Pepper and I walked down to the river. She saw a good dead tree floating on the water, and decided to walk across it. She tried to turn around… and promptly fell in. At least I know she can swim. Next week is our last week of puppy training. I’m excited, if only so I don’t have to drive out to the middle of nowhere every wednesday night. Most in my class are moving on to level 2 — Pepper won’t be. I don’t think we’re at that level yet. Maybe we’ll consider for January. She’d be good at agility, and we’d have to take level 2 before we could take that (and possibly level 3 as well) so maybe we will, but not sure yet.

As I said earlier, we doing Thanksgiving today. Instead of going to my Aunt & Uncle’s with both sides, this year things are different. For starters, my Auntie Trev is taking Grandma away for the weekend, so obviously no turkey & pie at her house. We’re also not doing anything else with that side. I don’t even think we’re joining them as they go to see Great Grandma today. As for my Dad’s side…. well, you should know that my mom did Thanksgiving once. She’ll never do it again. Ever. I’ve never seen her so stressed, and I don’t want to ever again. So we’re going out for lunch at the quietest restaurant we could find. Grandpa’s hearing isn’t very good. Well, it is, but his brain just can’t process what he hears very well. So we all have to talk loud and slowly. After, we’re all going back to Mom & Dad’s for snacks, and so everyone can meet my puppy.

Well, I better go or I won’t be ready — and I have to have Pepper ready as well. Happy Thanksgiving!
