I’m buying a house, or a townhouse, or a condo…

But probably the townhouse. Talked to the bank, I’ve been approved for a lot more money than I expected, $200,000, but I still think I”m going to look in the $150,000 range because I don’t want to end up spending everything I own on a house and then not be able to afford to leave it even for groceries. Originally I was looking into condos, but there’s a lot of townhouses that are in the same range, so if I got one of those, taking Pepper out would be super easy compared to a condo. I doubt I’ll be able to afford a house. The ones even in my range that I’ve looked at are $189,900 and I think that’s pushing it… mostly because there seems to be a lot of other fees and other costs that come with buying a house. Home inspection, laywer fees, not to mention the downpayment, homeowner’s insurance, arranging the mortgage… and then I have to move in! Mover’s fees, cardboard boxes, changing my drivers’ license…. and I’m sure the worst part will be taking to Bell to get them to move my services to the new house.

While we’re on the topic of money, my biggest stressor as of late so I’ve not be blogging so you didn’t all have to hear it, but broke down and now you’re all going to… I booked Pepper’s spay, finally! As cute as she is, no chance of puppies in the future, which I think is a bonus. She’s going in on the 19th, and do you want to know how much it’s going to cost me?! Over $500!!! Holy crap. That includes the anestetic, the bloodwork that *must* be done beforehand, the chip they put in at the same time in case she gets lost, the stupid cone thing, oh, and the actual surgery. It’s a good thing I’ve been saving up to buy a house so that I could afford this. I swear I’ve paid for Pepper 10 times over in food, toys & vet bills. I thought getting a dog would mean $50 a month in food and some toys and other than the initial purchase price, I’d be good to go! Yeah, apparently you also need to add in extra for the initial vaccinations, which cost more than she did. In a year, it’ll be $50 a month, until then…

In other news, I don’t have much to say. Okay, I don’t have anything to say… unless you want to hear about my knitting, but probably not.

oooh! that sounds exciting! how grown up to buy your own place.

why do you have to spay pepper though? you never let her out on her own, so it’s impossible for her to get pregger’s anyway! and how dangerous is the surgery?

Then again, if you get a townhouse with a shared yard and you just put her on a rope, she might not be so carefully observed.

  • Very grown up… but grown ups aren’t supposed to be this excited, so maybe it’s not that grown up after all? Or just not me.

The whole not-preggers thing is a bonus. The real reason is it’s actually healthier for her if I do if I’m not planning on her having any puppies. Apparently it seriously reduces her chance of breast cancer and uterous infections (or completely eliminates the risk if done before her first heat.) It’s a routine surgery, so I’m not too worried. Certainly a lot easier than emergency uterous surgery.

I think grown ups are excited too. My mom used to say she wasn’t grown up yet because she had never owned her house. (Now she is a real grown-up, and she really likes it!)

  • So I’m a grown up once I buy a house? No, I think I’d need a car too. And I’d have to spend a lot less of my time playing video games.
