Still Sick

I’ve had a cold officially for 2 1/2 weeks now… and I’m SICK of it!  (Sorry for the obvious pun…)  My minister’s been sick for months now, and I think she passed it on to me.  At least I have the same symptoms.  I sound a little better, and the cough was mostly gone for a few days, but it’s back.  I’d go to the doctor, but the most he’ll do for me is what he normally does for the sinus infection (half of the cold is definitely sinus horribleness.) and give Tylenol 3′s… not exactly a solution to the problem, though maybe a little helpful with the headache.  The cold is effecting my work, and more importantly, my knitting lol.  I managed to finish my project for my group this month, but it was really only a 4 hour project that took weeks.  I was hoping to get another one done, but I’m thinking that probably won’t happen.  Debating whether I want to try anyways, or do what I really should do and finish Tina’s mitts that she requested a month ago.  Hmm…  I’m seeing Tina tomorrow but I haven’t even cast on the second mitt yet.  I know I can get the outer done tonight but the lining?  I’d need a weekend… hm… so maybe I could choose something quick?  But that 4 hour project was quick and not so all at the same time…  maybe if I see something I really want to do.  :/

Took Pepper on a walk this afternoon.  She was climbing the walls and it turns out not so empathetic to Kristel not feeling well so decided to climb Kristel as well.  So I decided to take her on a long walk so that we could just go quick before bed.  My neighbourhood is prime area for driver’s training schools to be out teaching people to drive.  And 3-4pm is the most frequent time.  So I wasn’t suprised to see at least 6 different cars from schools out (and several more from the same schools.)  One passed us at some point about 10 minutes into our stroll.  We saw it parellel park, badly, behind a couple cars before it rounded the corner and went on its way.  About 40 minutes later we’d caught up with it.  How is this possible?  Well, it turns out that around the corner, around the next, and up a couple blocks it decided to parellel park behind another car.  Apparently he parked *much* worse than he did with the first few cars.  So badly in fact, that when we got there his car was being TOWED and the car he hit as well.  What I want to know is how you can possibly be parrellel parking so fast that you kill not one but two cars?  Thankfully, because it is prime driver training time, the undercover cops were out, so he couldn’t hit-and-run as many have before him.  (Because that’s good training – teach your students not to take responsibility!  note the sarcasm.)  Then again, maybe he couldn’t run, it was getting towed after all.

Yesterday as Pepper and I were going home from work there was a ton of police cars surrounding the corner at Silvercreek and Willow.  My Auntie Trev had come by about and hour earlier and warned me then about all the police in the area and maybe to consider taking another route home, but like I said, it was an hour previous.  Traffic was moving through though, and I got home with no delays.  Cops were there for a couple hours, and I just figured maybe someone robbed the gas station or something.  Found out this morning that some guy called in a fake bomb scare!  What is wrong with people?  What if those police officers were needed elsewhere?

…I could talk more but need to put down the computer and go to bed while the puppy’s still napping off our walk.

Wedding-Related Happenings and Other News

In case you missed it, my cousin Angela is getting married.  I don’t know if she’s taking Devon’s last name, but if she does, she’ll be Angela Antler.  The alliteration amuses me.  Of course, maybe I shouldn’t talk lol.  So of course there’s been a lot to do before the wedding on Saturday.

My mom did all the favours for the wedding (Grandma paid for supplies if you’re wondering.)  I helped with packaging – and if you’ve ever tasted my almond roca compared to my mom’s, you’ll be thankful I didn’t help with the actual making of the candy.  Though the 84 favours + extras, I did help with the bagging, stapling, putting the ribbon on, making sure the ribbon doesn’t fray any more (there’s still clear nail polish stuck to my nails) and putting those ridiculously small hearts on with a very small pair of tweezers.  Thankfully, we love Angela, so this is just a statement of fact not a complaint.

In terms of myself, I clearly needed to get a new dress.  I found one at Sears, thankfully only took an hour or so, and that’s that.  I also needed to get a new bra for said dress because let’s face it, it does show quite a lot of cleavage (I figured, I’m 25, there’s really no reason not to…) and so I might as well have a nice bra.  Mom offered to pay for it, and we went for a fitting.  It was awkward at first, but after an hour, that had been replaced with a more okay-let’s-just-finish-this-up-and-get-some-dinner.  Anyways, so we started with the bra size I’ve been wearing since, oh, grade 9 or so.  (That’s a 36D if you need to know.)  Turns out while at some point I was probably a D cup, never was a 36.  So she took one look at it and said, “It’s too big around and you need a bigger cup.”  And so that went on until eventually we found one that looks good with my dress, fits perfectly, and costs $135 – it’s from France.  Thank you Mom!  Anyways, the size I ended up with?  32G!  That’s G for “Good God!” by the way.  So that’s 2 sizes down around and you’d think 3 sizes up, but no, there’s such a thing as a DD and a FF.  (Apparently no EE..?)  There was one that looked nice and you couldn’t see any of it at all under my dress, but it was padded, and um, really?  Does anyone over a C really need a padded bra?  The one I ended up with you see a bit of the lace at the center, but oh well.

I still need to get shoes & maybe a pair of earings and some tights.  I want to get a pair of really bright shoes because I have a navy dress and think I could get away with it.  Turns out it’s the wrong season for that.  I’m finding mostly black & brown shoes.  I did find a pair of nice red ones that zipped up the heel & had elastics around the ankle holding you in, and suprise, they fit, but I found the top of the zipper was rubbing.  I didn’t end up buying them because I knew they’d have to be broken into before the wedding to avoid a blister, and really, with the wedding less than a week away, the blister I get breaking them in won’t be gone in time anyways.  *sigh*  I think I’ll hit the mall next.

In other news, teaching my Sunday School to knit.  It’s fun.  Some were a little frustrated, and the one who kept saying “My Mom says I’m not allowed to knit” was totally into it.  We pursevered though (is that spelt right?) and in our first lesson we have our cast on and one row of knitting done.  This week I’m not there, and I don’t think Jeff’s into teaching them how to purl back so… well, they’ll do something else.  I think Jeff’s going to move onto Luke in our study of the gospels and the life of Jesus.  (The goal is to be at the ressurection according to John for Easter Sunday)

I got a spider bite this morning sometime between when I got dressed & left the house and around 10:30 or so.  It must’ve crawled into my pants or something.  Anyways, I didn’t notice until my break and it was sooooo swollen!  Little scary actually.  Seriously, think one bite grown to the size of your big toenail.  Since then, polysporin & 4 hours later, the swelling & redness has gone down to normal size but I’m breaking out in hives.  Great.  So obviously whatever bit me I’m having an allergic reaction to which explains the original swelling.  I’d go home and get the right meds for that (I don’t typically carry that on me) but I have a meeting tonight, not to mention I’d have to drive, and they tend to knock me right out.  So I’m going to go with a if-it-doesn’t-spread-too-far-and-I-don’t-have-issues-breathing-then-I’ll-leave-it-until-when-I-get-home-around-9pm approach.  (Ok, if it’s still spreading, but an acceptable amount, when I leave here around 5:30, I’ll drop by my house on the way.)

On a camp note, was cozy inside, sooooo cold the first night in the adirondack (second night used a warmer sleeping bag) and was frustrated Sunday morning when the troop was so behind schedule and their leaders were doing nothing and we ended up an hour behind and lost many kids to parent-pick-ups before we could finish off.  I’d go more into detail, but Pepper’s whining to go O-U-T so I better do that before Dad gets frustrated with my noisy dog while he’s on the phone.

Push It, Grandma

Was going into Bulk Barn today (for fish sprinkles – turns out they didn’t have any, so got blue & fish gummies) and this old lady drives by me BLASTING her radio.  What was she playing?  Push It by Salt N Pepa.  It was awesome.  :)

I’d blog more but camp is in 2 days and I’m stressed to the max and the only way to fix that is by getting things done off my list.

Random things said at Angela & Devon’s shower in no particular order:

  • (upon hearing the nationality of someone’s scottish boyfriend) Hey, can you get him to give me an estimate for my chimney work?  I’ll pay him in beer.  I heard the Scotts are best at brickwork & drinking and do best by doing both at the same time.
  • (in response to the flower girl’s(2 yo) music of choice – Lady GaGa) Good that you’re not into Miley Cyrus.  Better to go all the way now rather than wait it out.
  • (while he’s looking down my shirt) I swear I’m not looking down your shirt.
  • (in response to a certain appetizer) Bacon wrapped cheese – It’s good for you.
  • (in response to the game tonight) Leafs suck.  What?…
  • (upon being called a Senators fan) No, it’s called reverse psychology.
  • (in response to my brother breaking a painting hung on the wall) We have some china hung on the wall upstairs if you’re up for it.  No really, I hate it.
  • <insert random drunk argument here with someone who shall remain nameless; in which the other party here neither started it nor actually supported any side in any way which would further the argument.>
  • (on raising children)  For the first 7 or 8 months, they just hang out in a basket.  Then comes trouble.

…I could go on, but I’m exhausted and have to get up early tomorrow to each Sunday School… again.  Wish I could get out of that, but alas, that’s not happening.  At least I don’t have to go when I’m at camp.  And surely the’ll let me have the day after the wedding off.

I’ve never been so scared.

I’m driving to work this morning, take the Greengate entrace, as usual, turn right, and then wait to turn left at Silvercreek, as usual.  Because I’m a Young Drivers graduate, I’m just close enough to the line to be on the pads for my light change.  So I’m waiting, and this transport truck comes to turn left.  They normally turn left here, I think, “I’m far enough back, he should have no issues.”  I was wrong.  He turns, the front of his truck gets by no problem.  The trailer?  About halfway through the hood of my car is UNDERNEATH is truck and his wheels are still going and he’s coming at me fast. I’m honking my horn, he’s still going; I can’t back up, there’s a car behind me; I can’t go to the right, there’s a van there.  Thankfully, the van heard me honking and cut infront of traffic which let me get over at literally the last second – when I moved over the foot or so, the wheel was right at my window.  I would have been schmucked.  (That’s the technical term.)  So of course I’m shuddering the whole way to work, get here and then cry for a good 5 minutes.  Why didn’t the truck driver hear me?  Why did he possibly think he had room?  Was he not using his mirrors?  Did he seriously not notice I was under his trailer?  Why the hell am I still alive?!

…I really should get to work, or a drink.
